With a view to returning to school, the first operational indications come from the Regional Conference. In the draft they have drawn up, the governors take into account two different scenarios under which they must act.
Two stages have been identified, reports Il Corriere della Sera: in a first stage, the basic prevention measures are considered sufficient, i.e. a student who has a temperature above 37.5, symptoms compatible with Covid or a positive swab, he cannot go to school.
On the other hand, those who have “mild respiratory symptoms and in good general condition” and no fever, and who test negative, can show up with FFP2 masks.
As for the masks, the regions point out on the one hand that theythe obligation for staff to wear respiratory protection expires on 31 August, an element underlined in the draft document. On the other hand, the Regions recommend the use of the devices for school staff and students who are at risk of developing severe forms of Covid.
The document from the Regional Conference also predicts that in this scenario there are sregular anification and air change. Extraordinary sanitation is recommended only in case of one or more confirmed cases.
And so, as for the covid cases that occur at school, these should be treated with the usual precautions: dedicated room or isolation area and then reach your home.
However, the governors identify another scenario, namely the increase in infections and therefore coinciding with of any public health need to limit the circulation of the virus.
In this predefined scenario, the prevention and security measures are increased, therefore one meter distance, the need to favor outdoor activities or to create paths with sufficient distance, the periodic (weekly) disinfection of all environments, the management of all leisure activities with rigid preventive measures, use of surgical masks for students and staff, which, however, will depend, the document notes, always on the possible need to establish viral circulation control measures.
The regions point to other points to propose to the government regarding this more serious scenario: Concession of gyms and other school premises to third parties is only allowed if written agreements, the obligations of thorough cleaning and sanitation are regulated, not to be responsible for the school staff and must be carried out compulsorily at the end of the activities on the day of use; there administration of meals in school canteens with guards; consumo snacks at the counter.
In recent days, as you know, there have been guidelines regarding the ventilation in the classrooms. A document that, according to many school leaders, would not satisfy the need for information needed to do so.
And then the experts who prepared the document clearly said that ventilation is important in the classrooms, but that opening the windows at the same time is the best method to influence the air quality: “The use of the aforementioned devices is only beneficial if it involves an improvement of the indoor air. It is possible, for example, that the simple ventilation of the classrooms through aopening windows can significantly improve air qualitythat promotes dilution and reduction of both chemical agents released inside (e.g. from materials, furniture and finishes, teaching equipment, cleaning agents, etc.) and viruses and bacteria released by occupants“.
“In other words – explain the experts who dealt with the guidelines – It is recommended that the use of additional sanitation, purification and ventilation devices be considered only when the measures indicated above in an exemplary manner have been identified and implemented and, nevertheless, it has been demonstrated that the air quality is not sufficient“.
