Macofar has chosen to equip the MicroRobot 50 system with sensor solutions from wenglor sensoric

Wenglor sensory group solutions were chosen by Romaco, a multinational specialized in machines and systems for the processing and packaging of pharmaceutical products and specialties, for one of the newest and most innovative machines manufactured by their Macofar business unit in Bologna: the MicroRobot 50. This is a highly innovative machine for precision dosing of powders and/or liquids in glass bottles.

It is a system equipped with three anthropomorphic robots which performs filling, capping and capping in an aseptic environment of cytotoxic products in glass bottles – with powder, liquid and also in combined filling – specially designed to integrate naturally with the isolation technology.

Characteristics of MicroRobot 50 made Romaco Macofar’s designers choose sensors carefully must be mounted on the machine according to the high environmental criticality in which they are used. In fact, the sensors work not only in contact with the pharmaceutical substances for which they must be guaranteed absolute asepticitybut also with aggressive liquids, detergents and more that are normally used during washing or bio-decontamination cycles, for example with hydrogen peroxide (VPHP), and to which they must remain immune.

InoxSense is the winning answer

InoxSens, the wenglor hygienic series, proved to be the winning solution. Equipped with case in V4A stainless steel (1.4404 / 316L) laser welded, making it completely hermetic and resistant to even the most aggressive chemical agents, units from InoxSense series they are characterized by some design features that make them suitable for use in accordance with EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration) regulations.

The geometry that characterizes the InoxSens designs offers a hygienic design which, thanks to the lack of sharp edges and the exclusive InoxLock fastening system, which allows installation without gaps, guarantees perfect washability and resistance also for high-pressure nozzles (IP69K). All this without compromising flexibility and ergonomics, since the adjustment of the units, like most wenglor sensors, takes place using the Teach-in button, which can be activated through the hermetically sealed housing.

Among the sensors that Romaco Macofar has chosen to mount on its MicroRobot 50 machine are the InoxSense models in reflective and reflective barrier technology used for detecting transparent objects. In this specific case, these sensors were used to detect glass bottles immediately before they enter the dosing station (powders and/or liquids) and at the exit from the capping station. In addition to reflective technology that a was also used direct diffuse. On the MicroRobot 50, there are sensors with red light background attenuation, which are used for recognition – with scanning from above – of the load level, that is, the right amount, of the rubber caps and of the ring nuts inside the respective ones. vibration feeders.

WeQubeVision laser sensors and systems

Check the level inside the bottles in the station filling is entrusted with a high-precision laser distance sensor whose operation is based on the principle of angle measurement, carried out with a high-resolution CMOS optical scale processed in DSP technology. This technique eliminates any, even small, difference in the switching points that may be due to the type of material, color or brightness. Equipped with two independent switching outputs, the sensor allows you to adjust two different threshold values ​​and an on and off delay in steps of 10 ms.

The WeQubeVision technology is used instead to ensure the actual presence of the bottles on the robots’ gripping equipment. THAT weQubeVision vision sensors, whose performance is based on wenglor’s MultiCore technology, has autofocus functions and targeted processing of areas of interest, ensuring optimal object detection. Functions are available to perform dimensional and presence checks, verify ordering sequences, process counts, detect orientation, count pixels, filter images, and perform statistical evaluations.

The laser sensors for measuring the filling level inside the bottles and the weQubeVision system for presence control on the robot were not naturally available in the InoxSense version, and were supplied with the accessory V4A stainless steel boxes that Wenglor provides for many of its models.
