Tuscany: consortium of extraction, technology and environment

Lucca – From drones to power tools. From cars – even naturally electric – toenergy efficiency of the offices in Capannori And Viareggio. From photovoltaic systems to LED lights up to tree planting. What is? They are the main actions that Consortium 1 Northern Tuscany – led by the President Ismaele Ridolfi has undertaken within the last twelve months on the ecological conversion and energy efficiency front.

Elections and investments – as the consortium itself tends to emphasize – are there deeply transformative the extraction body in a state-of-the-art discipline on both the technological and environmental front. A path that began in 2019 with the ‘climate emergency declaration’, a document that the following year led to the approval of the three-year plan for environment and renewable energy, in which the measures to be implemented are stated immediately.

Another tool is represented by environmental balanceadopted starting from the financial year 2019. So when we talk about smart cities, we can not fail to face the experience of the recycling consortium, and on this page we will illustrate some of the innovations that have been implemented in recent months.

1. DRONES From control of construction sites to 3D surveys and rendering

Since the spring of 2021, the consortium has two professional drones to monitor the territory, inspect construction sites, conduct surveys and 3D reproductions; the devices are also used in the environmental field for monitoring alien species. The drones are controlled by a team of 4 specially trained technicians and are at the service of all the consortium’s technical offices. 2. ELECTRICAL WORK EQUIPMENT Powered by energy produced by photovoltaic systems And the idea came from the employees themselves

Since May 2022, the Consortium has started replacing old petrol-powered work tools with completely new tools with a low environmental impact. These are brushcutters, chainsaws and battery blowers, powered by electricity produced by solar panels. The idea of introducing battery-powered tools was put forward by the employees of the organization, who won the idea competition on innovations in the workplace last year. 3. ELECTRIC CARS There are now six in total available. Here is the green effect of the first 4

In January 2022, two new electric cars came into operation, bringing the total number of organic vehicles in the consortium’s fleet to six. The six cars are powered by electricity produced by photovoltaic systems in Capannori and Viareggio. In 2021, the four electric cars drove 41,317 kilometers and avoided emitting 3.64 tons of CO2 (667 equivalent trees) into the atmosphere. To know more.

4. ENERGY EFFICIENCY Work is planned at the Capannori and Viareggio offices

Offices in Capannori and Viareggio. The energy efficiency work in Viareggio and the Capannori offices will be completed on December 31, 2022. In Capannori, the building will be equipped with a thermal coat and all fixtures and fittings will be replaced. In both places, the methane and LPG boilers will be replaced by the latest generation of electric heat pumps powered by photovoltaic systems.

5. PHOTOVOLTAIC INSTALLATIONS Three new installations have been activated within the last twelve months. The total number now rises to nine

In the last twelve months, three new photovoltaic systems have been activated in addition to the six already existing ones. At the end of April, the solar cell plant in the Massaciuccoli drainage plant was activated, which reaches a maximum power of 10.5 kW (kWp) and is intended for own consumption (pumps and additional services). In 2021, the plants for the Bufalina drainage pump (10.08 kWp) and the third plant at the Capannori site (19.8 kWp) were activated.

SEVERAL PHOTOVOLTAIC INSTALLATIONS A saving of around 37 thousand euros has been produced from self-consumed and sold energy

Still with regard to photovoltaic systems (point 5), a concrete example: 144 thousand kWh / year was consumed in 2021 to power all the Consortium’s buildings (excluding water pumps), in the same period the Consortium produced 175 thousand kWh / year; the photovoltaic plants have therefore resulted in a saving of around 37 thousand euros in self-consumed energy and sold directly to the GSE with a shortfall in CO2 emissions equivalent to 93.16 tonnes (6,211 equivalent trees). However, all the consortium’s activities, including drainage pumps, are powered by clean energy.

7. LED LIGHT Offices and consortium workshop, traditional light points replaced with new lamps

The replacement of all traditional light points with new LED lamps was carried out for the offices and the consortium’s workshop. Every year, the consortium invests in the replacement of traditional high-consumption lamps, also for the water pump systems, 11 have already been involved to date. Not only replacement but also elimination of redundant bright spots, installation of crepuscular or timers and power reductions. In addition to offering significant energy savings, the LED lights provide less scattering of the light beam and less light pollution.

8. PLANTING In 2022, five hundred trees have already been planted

By 2022, about 500 trees have already been planted, in addition to the over a thousand already planted last year; by the end of 2023 there will be three thousand. This is a fundamental initiative that the consortium is carrying out as an activity to prevent climate change and to improve hydraulic safety in the territory. The planting activities relate to both the Consortium’s land and areas on which the body operates in collaboration with the municipalities.
