Unacea-CER sector data presented on the occasion of SaMoTer Day

At Veronafiere, more than 100 companies participated in SaMoTer Day 2022 on 14 June for the presentation of the forecast report on developments in the construction machinery sector carried out by Unacea, the Italian construction machinery union, and CER, Centro Europa Ricerche, at the 31st edition of SaMoTer , scheduled for May 3 – 7, 2023.

A sector, construction machinery which, despite the energy crisis and procurement of raw materials, is enjoying brilliant results achieved over 2021 with + 30% sales for a total of 28,465 units, and which expects growth in 2022 – albeit with a physiological deceleration – around 10%, with an estimated sales of 23,599 units.

“Like all trade fairs, SaMoTer is a business multiplier for the companies participating in them,” states Federico Bricolo, President of Veronafiere. “Companies that believed in trade shows between 2012 and 2019 recorded 12.6 points more sales growth and 0.7 points more gross margins than their competitors. Some sectors showed above-average benefits: mechanics, represented by SaMoTer, performed even better with + 14.4% “.

“We are planning a 2023 edition of Salone, which takes into account this very expansive scenario, and which in the next few years will see the Italian construction sector allocate over 107 billion euros in PNRR. Therefore, we are also moving at government level, to bring institutional decision-makers to SaMoTer and facilitate a discussion on these issues with companies and associations, ”explains Bricolo.

“One of the innovations presented at the next edition of the International Exhibition for Construction Machinery is the SaMoTer Lab,” explains Sara Quotti Tubi, Event Manager at SaMoTer. “This is a specific area that combines innovation and sustainability with real implications. I am referring to concrete technologies, software, automation and digital”.

“For us, Lab means collaboration and synergy between companies, institutions, research; a right place for discussion, training and information. Furthermore, the SaMoTer Innovation Award returns on February 23, the competition that rewards technical and technological innovations, while on February 24, space is given to SaMoTer B2 Press, which promotes the meeting between companies and the national and international press “, specifies the event Leader of SaMoTer .

Asphaltica, the fair dedicated to technologies and solutions for paving, safety and road infrastructure, will also be exhibiting at Veronafiere from 3 to 7 May 2023 in conjunction with SaMoTer. “Let’s start with the success of the 2021 edition of Asphaltica, which was held present, which registered an excellent number of qualified operators despite the constraints due to the pandemic,” comments Michele Turrini, President of Siteb (Italian Roads and Bitumen) ).

“The conglomerate and bitumen supply chain marked an exciting 2021 in terms of production and sales, with the volume of product growing from 23 to 27 million tons. An excellent performance, which, however, must take into account the general maintenance needs of the national road network, which at least 35 million tonnes of conglomerate must be used each year, ”explains Turrini.

“As for the first half of 2022, the data are not so good due to the expensive energy and raw materials that have punished bitumen producers and importers of machinery, with a mark of -35%. We hope to recover in the second half and close the year by limiting the losses to -10% ”, Turrini hopes.

The data in the Unacea report, illustrated by Stefano Fantacone, CER Scientific Director, shows that in the last quarter of 2021 there was a sharp acceleration in sales. Even the data for the first quarter of 2022 appear to suffer only a slight slowdown due to macroeconomic phenomena leading to effects on energy prices and the difficulty of finding parts.

However, the trend in the construction machinery market remains positive, especially for crawler excavators, wheel loaders and wheeled excavators. In 2022, growth by type will see an increase of 10% for telehandlers, 11.3% for construction machinery, 11.8% for earthmoving machinery, 15.1% for road machinery, 17.4% for concrete machinery.

In terms of exports, the first quarter of 2022, with a total value of 689.5 million euros, + 7.4% in value compared to the same period the year before, marks, for a total of 529, 7 million euros, + 94.7 %.

“In Italy, the market for construction machinery continues to show momentum, even though there is a slowdown on the order side due to the uncertainty caused by geopolitical tensions. However, we hope to close the year with double-digit growth, ”said Luca Nutarelli, Secretary General of Unacea.

The event ended with a talk with David Bazzi, CEO of Komatsu Italia Manufacturing, Mario Spinelli, CEO of Wirtgen Italia, Gianmarco Ronco, Marketing and Communications Manager at Cifa, who expressed the views of the companies in the market.
