ROME – Recently nominated as a World Heritage SiteUNESCO, in 2022 Riace Bronze will be protagonists, at a distance of fifty years since their discovery, of a series of festive celebrations, placed in the image of contemporary Calabria, through a national and international journey with the aim of rediscovering the quality of its territory and its culture. The initiative is promoted by Calabria region with extraordinary partners, including Ministry of Culture and Calabria Film Commission.
The whole project was illustrated for Chamber of Deputiesyou – presents over seventy national and international newspapers – by the Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini, by the President of the Region of Calabria Roberto Occhiuto, by the Vice-President Giusi Princi, by the President of the Regional Council of Calabria Filippo Mancuso, by the Mayor of Reggio Calabria Paolo Brunetti, by the Mayor of the capital Reggio Calabria Carmelo Versace. The press conference was moderated by journalist Francesco Verderami.
After the projection of very suggestive videos, those present went on to exhibit the phases of the artistic-cultural marathon: from July to September, relaunching and improving Calabria’s expertise through a network of museums and a series of events where visual arts, cinema, theater, street art, comics, augmented and digital reality, public archeology, mapping, conferences and exhibitions.
From October to December and in 2023, Calabria will “travel” in Italy and in the world – the festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Rome, Milan are some stops – through artistic interventions: starting with the Cubo Stage, installing a 4-meter cube alongside video projections, animations and visual suggestions accompanied by original music, creative and virtual reconstruction of the Magna Graecia concept.
On “Riace Bronze“You will be able to watch the documentary of the same name, produced by PALOMAR SpA, company of the European group Mediawan, made under the direction of Fabio Mollo and script by Armando Maria Trotta, Giuseppe Smorto, Massimo Razzi and Fabio Mollo. And again, the Riace Bronzes will be the main characters in October at Rai Cultura with a special episode of the eighth series of “Travel into Beauty“And on Rai Play in December and in prime time on Rai3, with a special episode of”Octopus Bones “.
We will see the creation of Here and now, Magna Graecia-themed murals. Scientific insights can be followed through the conference “The Riace Bronzes: 50 years of study and research”, Which in a single event brings together national and international scientists who have tried to shed light on the mystery of the Riace bronzes. Room for classical theater in the evocative scenarios of Aragonese castle of Reggio Calabria, of the Archaeological Park of Locri and of the Roman Villa of Casignana (RC). There will be tourist packages for students, with the inclusion of high schools in a path of the ninth art: the cartoon “School of bronzer”.
For August 16, the date of discovery, the municipality of Reggio Calabria will pay tribute to the bronzes with an evocative installation of video mapping on the facade of the Reggio Calabria Museum. Throughout the summer period, Corso Garibaldi will be the framework of expertise for the outdoor exhibition of public archeology dedicated to the discovery of bronzes. The city of Riace will also be transformed into a stage on 16 August. The festivities open with “The Morning of the Bronze: “Immersed” at the place of discovery“And will end with”The Night of the Riace Bronzes“.
Minister Dario Franceschini, who complimented the crowd of initiatives, drew the following conclusions: “Calabria has an extraordinary heritage to discover and improve. This is a big challenge.
