A Renault 5 “jewel” version to celebrate 50 years of legend

Happy birthday Renault 5: The iconic model of the French house turns 50, and among the many initiatives organized to celebrate it, there is also the creation of a special electric show car, signed together with the French designer Pierre Gonalons.

The result of the collaboration is the Renault 5 Diamant, a creation that unites the world of interior design and the car. The inspiration for Gonalons came from the decorative arts, especially from high jewelry, which made him “decorate” the show car by transforming it – in fact – into a “diamond”.

How is Renault 5 Diamond

The car retains the characteristic lines and iconic shape from the original version, which came out of the Renault factories in 1972, but under the well-known silhouette there has been a profound transformation thanks to the 100% electric motor, a modernity that is also recalled by the fingerprint reads to unlock. Inside, three meters of digital display show speed, charging and time, while the smartphone, located in a special section in the middle of the dashboard, coordinates navigation and infotainment.

From an aesthetic point of view, the pink body enriched with iridescent golden pigments has been streamlined to better highlight the iconic lines of the Renault 5, the headlights and taillights stand out as faceted as gemstones and the wide wheels, inherited from the alpine version. , presented in the center a sun, a typical element of Pierre Gonalons’ creative style. The other design details are the golden brass finishes and the steering wheel, a kind of “spiral” which, although creative, manages to be functional, and which is made of marble and carbon fiber.

“I am honored by Renault’s invitation to reinvent the legendary R5 on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. The brand gave me carte blanche to design my dream car – said Gonalons – In my eyes, the R5 embodies a pop, optimistic and decidedly contemporary life. With the Renault 5 Diamond, I wanted to pay tribute to its revolutionary design by translating my universe of shapes and colors to the automotive world ”.

“The creative universe and personality of Pierre Gonalon and his collaborators is part of the flagship of French craftsmen, providing an innovative result elaborated in the smallest details – added François Farion, Renault Colors & Materials Director – For me, Renault 5 Diamond is first and foremost emotional shocks of the exterior colors that give the car a look that is both naive and sophisticated at the same time, and the attention to detail provided by Pierre, which is very sensitive to the references and meaning of each element ».

The details entrusted to the craftsmen: the car will be auctioned with a collection of NFT

In fact, several craftsmen have collaborated on the project, which works daily with Gonalons: the steering wheel and glove compartment are made of recycled marble by Minéral Expertise using French marble, the seat fabric and the horsehair fabric covering the dashboard are produced by publisher Métaphores textile, the only workshop in the world that continues to weave horsehair by hand. The Mohair wool rug is made by Pinton, one of the last French manufacturers of artificial rugs, historically based in Aubusson. Finally, the gilding of the ornaments, such as the monogram on the cap, was carried out by the Bertin-Aubert workshop in Paris.

Following the unveiling, the Renault 5 Diamond will be auctioned, and in the same period, a collection of Nft (non-fungible tokens) dedicated to her will debut, digital works with a certificate of authenticity, among which the digital twin also stands out. The profits from the sale will be donated to Give Me 5, the brand’s new social responsibility project dedicated to the younger generations, combining sports and music.
