The Paestum and Velia Archaeological Park, Unesci sites since 1998, are preparing to reopen the doors to the two archeological sites in the evening as part of the 2022 improvement plan for the Ministry of Culture. In Paestum it will be possible to visit the southern Sanctuary with its two spectacular temples. Here, the Doric pillars of the Temple of Neptune will be the exceptional scenographic backdrop for the artists who will perform in a suggestive and evocative context of ancient emotions. Velia, the homeland of elite philosophy, will welcome visitors to the lower city. The performances take place in the southern quarter and the theater on the Acropolis under the impressive medieval tower, the city’s symbol.
(TurismoItaliaNews) The program includes shows, concerts, guided tours. The pride of the 2022 programming is the “Musica & Parole 2022” review scheduled from July 22 to August 20 with Roberto Vecchioni, Vinicio Capossela, Malika Ayane, Gegè Telesforo, Danilo Rea and Luciano Biondini, NOI La Nuova Orchestra Italiana ( founded by Renzo Arbore), Paolo Belli, Raphael Gualazzi and Simona Molinari. The review, now in its third edition, will see eight major live events alternating between in Paestum and Velia. A “musical canvas” of great artistic significance and the return of famous musicians will be the soundtrack to the nights in the bells. As part of the other extraordinary evening openings planned at the two venues, on July 24 in the Paestum event “Pestane View: Exhibition and Extemporaneous Painting in the Moonlight”, which evokes the past of the Grand Tour with the exposure of some paintings by Gianbattista Vico Fonden. During the evening there will also be an impromptu painting for young and old.
The choice to include shows in the park’s cultural offerings aims to promote and enhance the two archeological sites to give the public an opportunity other than daytime visits to discover the two ancient Magna Graecia towns. “The temples in Paestum, the southern district of Velia and the theater on the Acropolis will be given new life this summer through music, theater, dance, cinema, science and literature – explains the director of the park Tiziana D’Angelo – it is not just a question of offering suggestive scenarios for these shows, but of creating new and original opportunities for dialogue and mutual reinforcement between ancient and contemporary culture, past and present through art. With the basic support of the Ministry of Culture and in collaboration with local and regional authorities, a lively cycle of events will open the doors to our park on these summer evenings, involving several sections of the public. In particular, the “Musica & Parole” review will bring national and international singers and musicians to Paestum and Velia, further enriching our extraordinary cultural heritage.
In the heart of Cilento National Park and the province of Salerno (one of the largest in Italy), the exhibition will be one of the summer events with a strong tourist attraction both for the uniqueness of the places that host it and for the opportunity to enjoy a journey made of history, culture and music.
