When I read Fabio Bartolomei’s book “The Last Time We Were Children” I laughed and cried. In short, I fell in love with it and I thought that story should be brought to the cinema“. These are the words the actor says Claudio Bisioon the occasion of his directorial debut, to the transposition of the book of the same name, the recording of which in the final stages took place in Tuscany and Lazio within seven weeks.

Last time we were kids takes place during the collection of the Rome ghetto in 1943 and tells about Cosimo, Italy And Vanda, three children with the typical desire to dream and discover the world of their age. A childish frivolity unfortunately rejected due to World War II. Faced with the disappearance of one of their friends, Riccardo, they will fearlessly set out to save him. But their escape will make room for another rescue mission, a nun and a convalescent soldier, who will set out on their trail for a pursuit that will only lead to poor results. The three children are actually “armed” with enthusiasm, ruthlessness and a strong sense of friendship that will lead them on their mission, guided by a mysterious map, between high-risk and unexpected adventures. Eventually they will meet the famous German soldiers from whom they were sure they would get their Richard back. And important promises will be made about the adults they want to become: certainly different from those who caused the hateful and violent war.

After reaching his artistic and personal maturity, born in 1957, Claudio Bisio he thus attempts the great leap to lead, touching on important historical topics and universal emotions, such as friendship and the purity of childhood to save the world. A leap that does not happen completely “in the dark”, as the career of the comedian, actor, stand-up comedian, TV host, very articulate and also consists of important collaborations. Bisio was actually one of the interpreters of the film, Oscar winner in 1992, Mediterranean Seaby Gabriele Salvatores, director who also wanted it with Puerto Escondido, Nirvana, Kamikazen, Syd, Tour. His career, especially his beginnings, consists of collaborations with some of the most important writers of Italian film, such as Francesco Rosi, The ceasefire, Mario Monicelli, for Picari, Dino Risi, in Face like a foolGiuseppe Bertolucci, i The camels And The strange lifeUgo Chiti, i Room hotelFrancesca Archibugi, no The lying, just to name the most important. Directors with whom he has worked and who have certainly transferred a lot of their art, their artistic vision, the way of making cinema.

Even if the name Claudio Bisio is closely linked to his career in television, as a host of successful comic book shows, such as Zelig, on television movies, and even though he can be considered the “prince of Italian comedy”, by cinepanettoni (Guess who is coming for Christmas) to costume comedies about Italy today (Welcome to the south, welcome to the north, welcome the chairman, welcome back chairman, people who are well) to those signed by Fausto Brizzi, Massimiliano Bruno and Alessandro Genovesi, his versatility will most likely lead him to find the right register to tell an important story, which in a dramatic context as the feelings of war bring to the fore. children, another difficult undertaking and therefore not practiced in Italian cinema.

The film’s cast includes Alessio Di Domenicoantonio, Vincenzo Sebastiani, Carlotta De Leonardis, Lorenzo Mc Govern, Federico Cesari and Marianna Fontana. The story is signed by Fabio Bartolomei and Fabio Bonifacci, who co-wrote the script with Claudio Bisio himself; the scenography is curated by Paola Comencini, the photograph by Italo Pietriccione and the costumes are signed by Beatrice Giannini.
