Trieste, July 4, 2022– From the joy of going to sea to “living” in a city like Trieste, from respect to spaciousness, to curiosity and spontaneity: Barcolana’s values, its hopes, the relationship with its participants are told in a single image that is not just a manifesto , but a manifesto of the values ​​of the regatta.

Barcolana represents to me the joy of human commitment. I wanted to draw on the optimism of the regatta to create a manifesto that spoke to our human nature and expressed the importance of imprinting the human touch, respect, empathy and spontaneity in our world. The imprint on the illy cup that I drew 30 years ago carries a simple message: we leave a positive impression on the worldMatteo Thun explains.

The manifesto captures and summarizes the spirit with which Barcolana was conceived in 1969, the spirit that has guided the organizers of the Sailing Society of Barcola and Grignano for over 50 years. Matteo Thun was able to identify the characteristic elements – Barcolana’s DNA, expressed through fingerprint signs, where the lines of the footprint are reminiscent of ocean currents – which project the event beyond sailing and tell the universe of regatta values. Barcolana, in summary and in the end – Matteo Thun explains to us – is the joy of sharing a passion and thanks to this to cultivate common values.

Barcolana is scheduled for October 9, 2022 in the Gulf of Trieste, starting at 10.30, prior to events on land and at sea starting on 30 September. Registration for the regatta is open from June 29 online on the site www.barcolana.it. Today, 400 posters and 4,000 postcards with poster graphics from the headquarters of the Barcola and Grignano Sailing Association, addressed to the same number of yacht clubs and owners who have participated in previous editions, will leave.

Matteo Thun, architect and designer, was born and raised in South Tyrol. After studying with Oskar Kokoschka and Emilio Vedova at the Salzburg Academy, he graduated with honors in architecture from the University of Florence. In 1982 he co-founded the Memphis Group with Ettore Sottsass, and in 1984 he opened his architecture and design studio in Milan. The program operates internationally in the hospital, healthcare, residential, office and retail and product design sectors – the projects are inspired by timeless simplicity and centered on the human scale. An international team of 70 architects, interior designers, product designers and graphic designers design on a scale ranging from micro to macro, focusing on very complex projects. Barcolana is the largest regatta in the world, it takes place every year in Trieste on the second Sunday in October. The event was organized in collaboration with the municipality of Trieste, the FVG region and the main sponsor Generali, supported by several partners, and the event was held the 50th edition, held on Sunday, October 14, 2018, the presence of 2,869 registered boats, a new world championship for a sailing regatta, which was followed by registration in the Guinness Book of World Records.
