Rome’s waste in Ciociaria, the mayors of Cassinate: “We will unite” –

from Aldo Simoni

A large part of the waste in the capital will be treated in the disposal plant in Saf (Societ Ambiente Frosinone). Waiting for the meeting with Mayor Gualtieri

Fear is blowing among the inhabitants around Malagrotta. Especially according to the latest data on the presence of dioxin in the air: three times higher than the norm. The houses in the Galeria Valley, a few hundred meters from the garbage plant that went up in flames on Wednesday, have had their windows closed for days despite the heat. And they keep repeating: We do not want to risk a new Seveso. So who can, is to leave their home to move in with relatives or friends. And the waste in Rome?

In this emergency a good one slice enter Ciociaria. And just in the disposal plant of So f (Societ Ambiente Frosinone) the spa consisting of the 91 municipalities of Ciociaria plus the province that manages the Colfelice waste treatment plant. A system designed and built (in 1996) to satisfy need Of all Frosinone municipalities; but which often was valid help to the capital. Like it actually is these days. But now the fire at the Malagrotta factory (with the consequent arrival of additional garbage trucks from Rome) has immediately alerted the mayors of the municipalities adjacent to Saf.

Starting with it off Colfelice, Bernardo Donfrancesco: I understand the principle of solidarity. But from rumors we learned that the Malagrotta plant could remain closed for over a year and that in the meantime an additional amount of 100 tons of waste to be treated. We must not forget that all local administrators have repeatedly in recent years reaffirmed the principle that the new regional waste plan should to exclude categorical supply of waste to the Colfelice plant by municipalities in other provinces.

answers the mayor Cassino Enzo Salera: Warning: the ventilated environmental risk does not exist because the waste will only be the work. But they are not disposed of here. In other words, there is no harm to us, also because we (after the Roccasecca closure) have no open landfills. Among other things, I would like to remind my mayors that the Saf plant was set up to dispose of waste. And garbage is the raw material. Like wood in a carpentry shop. If this were not the case, the company’s accounts would suffer serious consequences for the municipalities, among other things.

And after visiting state-of-the-art factories in the north, Salera announces: This week, I and other Frosinone mayors have an important meeting with Gualtieri. We will express all ours to him support for the construction of the waste-to-energy plant, and at the same time we will offer all our commitment to a program of close cooperation. For only if Rome becomes it autonomousso will we os i Ciociaria. And Rome must do so as soon as possible, in order to adapt to the major European capitals, where these facilities, built with state-of-the-art technologies, are not seen as malicious structures, but as an energy resource. Never as useful as in this historic moment. Let us not forget that in Trentino there is a plant in the heart of the Chianti vineyards (it treats the waste from the north-sst) and no one thinks that it can be harmful to the environment.

For his part, the President of Saf, Lucio Migliorelliconfirms: Each scream of alarm completely unjustified because the additional waste coming from Rome (approximately 100 tonnes per day) only stops at our plant at the time of processing; shortly after they arrive loaded and disposed of elsewhere: to Viterbo, Brescia and Padua. I would like to clarify that our plant is structured to work 600 tons a day. And today we are well below 400.

Saf – continues President Migliorelli – healthy, structured and active on the regional and national stage. But most of all public heritage from the Ciociara community. And to do everything possible to ensure that this legacy is in step with the times. What does it mean? This means that the president will announce in a few days important news on what he likes to define “Metal factories“. It is a latest generation facilities. There are two basic pillars: first and foremost the processes that generate bad odors disappear. The wet is treated with a cycle that does not include oxygen (as in Trentino). The other news is that all “zero impact”.

In fact, in order to reduce any kind of emission, the systems are powered by solar panels and therefore by utilizing solar energy. In this connection, it should be remembered that a month ago the board approved the award of the works for an investment of 1.3 million euros. In 5 months, 2,980 modules will be installed on the roof of the shed, covering an area of 5,099 square meters. When fully operational, 1,286,823 kWh per year will be produced. Finally, all materials will be recycled: plastic, paper, aluminum, organic. In other words, the new plant will be able to do that retrieving all sorts of things sent to landfill only one very small part of the allotted. In the meantime, the close cooperation between Frosinone and Rome is being strengthened.
