“The school: a place of participation, community and openness to the territory”, this is the title of the event held on 15 June 2022 at the Istituto Comprensivo G.Amendola in Sarno. The notion of an educational institution understood as an “open system”, able to expand its training and operational horizons to the social, economic and territorial context and to play an active and proactive role in relation to it, was the starting point that got the principal Prof. Antonella Esposito, the Mayor of the Municipality of Sarno Giuseppe Canfora and delegates to the organization and management function as well as the coordinator of the PON FSE-FESR projects Prof. Luigi Astarita to promote the event.
The image of a school opening up to the territory, becoming a real “civic center” for territorial cohesion and community services, and always placing the student and his academic success at the center, was one of the themes that fueled the debate – conference held within the event with the participation of authoritative persons from politics and institutions, such as the Vice President of the Campania Region Fulvio Bonavitacola, the Chairman of the Budget Commission of the Campania Region Francesco Picarone, the Mayor of the Municipality di Sarno Dr. Giuseppe Canfora, Rector Prof. Prisco Covino, Director of the Agro Solidale Consortium Arturo Lombardo, Councilor for public education in Sarno Municipality Avv. Gianpaolo Gemt.
The conference entitled “The European Social Fund as an Opportunity for Socialization, Learning, Inclusion and Hospitality” was promoted to discuss the opportunities that Europe provides in various areas such as culture, social, hospitality and inclusion. With the European Social Fund (ESF), it is possible to improve and diversify the school’s educational offerings also from a learning point of view with extracurricular activities that improve students’ skills and abilities, especially taking into account their inclinations and attitudes that always favor a sharing attitude. and reciprocity, never exclusive, but always inclusive and aimed at helping the other.
During the event, the students presented the final products made within PON 20221/2022 – Avv. 9707 – “Learning and Sociality” thanks to the European funding that the Amendola Institute was the recipient of with the implementation of no. 19 very pedagogical modules.

All students have ventured, with a fantastic teamwork and a lot of enthusiasm and commitment, in the various fields of knowledge, from art to music, from theater to sports, from music therapy to the improvement of the Italian language for foreigners L2, from coding to strengthening STEM disciplines, from cultural and environmental heritage protection to the museum; from improving foreign languages ​​to digital creative writing, from food education to environmental sustainability.
Among the implemented modules is also the creation of a mural and mosaic cladding outside the school with the title: “The School of Art, Art in the School: a wallmal for Peace, Culture, the Environment and the Enhancement of Territory”, by the Master by Art Michele Tortora, who has excellently interpreted, through the water cycle, the river Sarno and its territory.

The Comprehensive Amendola School also received other forms of support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), which made it possible to improve the school from a structural point of view. Wiring work for the Internet network is underway, which will make it possible to have an Access point in each classroom for a stable connection and to avoid connection problems; all classrooms will be equipped with 65-inch interactive touch-sensitive screens that will replace the classic slate boards; Air purifiers are installed in each classroom, guaranteeing not only air purification but also air quality monitoring, and recently another funding within the Edugreen project, to create laboratories for environmental sustainability and training gardens. Smart Classes have been created with the purchase of laptops, tablets and audio and video devices to also guarantee distance learning, and another application for funding is on its way to kindergarten and primary school for the realization of innovative teaching environments, with the purchase of specific equipment and advanced digital and didactic-pedagogical equipment.
“There were many interventions, we will do many more,” concluded Prof. Luigi Astarita, Rapporteur PON FSE and FESR – because it is our duty and responsibility to do so, and we always pursue a common goal: to try to guarantee our students , for our children, for the new generations, a better, more sustainable future that lives up to their expectations “
