“The European Archeology Days at the Benedictine Monastery of the Holy Savior in San Salvatore Telesino in the province of Benevento in Campania. Campania Regional Museums Directorate, in collaboration with the Superintendence of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Caserta and Benevento, Southern High School, Santa Maria Capua Vetere Municipality, “Vincenzo Vitale” Academy of Music and Art, Archeoclub of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, Artem, Le Nuvole and the Lions Club of Santa Maria Capua Vetere propose on Saturday 18 June and Sunday 19 June 2002 an extraordinary opening of the archaeological circuit of ancient Capua with an intense program of initiatives within the JEA – Journées Européennes de l ‘ Archeology, born in 2019 under the auspices of the French Ministry of Culture through INRAP – National Institute of Preventive Archaeological Research. The spirit that animates the days is the inclusion, of the extraordinary opening of cultural sites: laboratories / workshops, landfills that are generally inaccessible to the public by non-professionals, “opening skills” with open lessons, such as those to be held at the museum with PhD students from Southern High School, and guided tours that will take you to the archeological circuit of ancient Capua. Southern High School, with the Regional Directorate of Campania Museums and the Superintendence of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Caserta and Benevento, presents the first results of the research, with scientific guidance by Prof. Carlo Rescigno, on materials from 1993 excavations of the archeological complex known as the Bronze Workshop. Graduate students from Southern High School Roberto Domenico Melfi, Vincenzo Tallura and Lorenzo Toscano, will exhibit the results of the research and will present a preliminary selection of the finds identified so far during the study of the deposits from the Archaeological Museum of Ancient Capua, as relevant ceramic and pictorial finds, the Roman domus and a selection of materials related to the bronze workshop, as proof of the famous production of bronze ceramics known as Campana Suppellex. 17.30, inauguration of the exhibition “Memories from the Underground” by master Gianni Pontillo. The exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Lions Club of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, unfolds in the museum premises in close relation to the archeological collection, which increases the perception of the paintings. Quotes from the monumentality of the cities of Campania and the rendering in a contemporary key of finds exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Ancient Capua are the result of the artist’s elaboration and his vision of antiquity crossed by a clever use of color.
