FuoriSalone 2022: The Nilufar Gallery Exhibitions

FuoriSalone 2022: Design returns to animation via della Spiga. But it’s not the design most people think of when naming Milan Design Week. It is certainly not designed last cri which dictates fashion, trends and styles, focused around a precise temporal or cultural context, and it is not even the design of industrial production in series production. So what design are we talking about? Of a special and exclusive type of design, which we could also define as unique. Because it comes from personal curiosity, from pollution, from the understanding of heterogeneity and from the fusion of seemingly distant worlds. In other words, it is the design that is loved, desired, coveted and promoted by Nina Yashar and from Nilufar Gallerywhich this year offers a great show dedicated to designwho inserts established names along with young talents.

Eden Collection table by Gaon and Goldberg, Oasis porcelain collection by Federica Perazzoli and DRUGS rug by Daniele Innamorato

Different generations, styles and nationalities confront each other, mingle and enter into dialogue via della Spiga’s premises, generating visual accumulations that amplify the expressive power of each piece or collection. It is the praise of the meeting, told directly through the frameworks that run one after the other to stage a kaleidoscope of ideas, languages, materials and techniques. Behind every formal and conceptual choice there is always an inspiring theme. Each project on display leaves a trail of tracks, a chain of suggestions and why not also a series of questions that are worth reflecting on.

Eden Collection table by Gaon and Goldberg, Flavie Audie porcelain collection

Luca Privitera

Israeli designers Gal Gaon and Irene Goldbergmain characters in the installation Back to Eden, put in correspondence with the two shop windows on via della Spiga, has created the series of Eden dining tables that wonder if it will ever be possible to return to an ancient past, to a new starting point and to new forms of language based on male and female identity. The collection, which consists of tables and consoles, is inspired by the radical aesthetics of colliding ellipsoids. A frequent phenomenon in the cosmos, caused by the collision between two energy fields, which always generate renewed forms. This is why each of the two exhibited tables has a unique look that follows its own specific geometry and establishes an independent relationship to the space and to the objects that surround it.

Despite the pulsating personality that characterizes both tables, they dialogue perfectly with both the dreamlike and visionary collection of rugs. substances from Daniele in love, which translates the primitive concept of “Ecstasy” into decoration, pollutes it with the hallucinogenic experiences from the Rave parties of the 90s, and with the two porcelain services elegantly set up on the two large oval floors. We refer to Vortexthe collection signed by Flavie Audiit is at Oasisthe series of porcelain created by the image sensitivity of Federica Perazzoli. They are part of the project Reborncreated in collaboration with Ginori 1735, which allows for the direct involvement of international artists and designers in the reinterpretation of the white porcelain pieces produced by the brand’s Manufacture. Through different storytelling styles and original decorative codes, dishes and furnishings are transformed into unique works of art that reveal each artist’s personality and Ginori’s craftsmanship expertise.

Epismaltosis installation of Anestis Michalis

And the installation is also focused on the unique Epismaltosis signed by the Greek artist Anestis Michalis: A private and very personal narrative that shuns the classic polished and shiny image of ceramics and glazed porcelain, instead focusing on the celebration of “imprecise” manual movements that intertwine, as in a tangle, shapes and layers of fabric, transforming them into “anarchic” objects “equipped with its own expressive charge, light years away from the perfection of conventional aesthetic codes, because it is the result of an exploration that revisits the relationship between the artist and his work, transformed to an active object of the creative process.

Installation An iteration of the Flora seating system by Khaled El Mays on display in Nilufar Gallery’s room

Luca Privitera

The pollution between the digital world and the real world is instead the starting point for the installation An iteration of the Flora seating system from Khaled El Mays: a dreamlike and immersive set-up that transforms the Flora sofa into a modular seating system designed to animate the space through psychedelic suggestions, where shapes and colors mix to create a very powerful narrative plot. The result is a dreamy landscape that transports viewers into the designer’s imaginative world, amplified to surplus by the illustrative apparatus of the walls, where the natural elements take on a stunning and enchanted dimension, and by the polymorphic features of the Medusa lamp.

We met the Lebanese designer (this year’s winner of the EDIDA Award in the Designer of the Year category), and he told us about the creation of this experiment, born after his personal need to go beyond the boundaries of “This project” – he explained- “It was born in the virtual world, so at a later stage I began to explore how it could become part of the real world, and I tried to fuse reality, dream and psychedelic visions. I have tried to transfer flexibility and versatility. in the virtual world to the physical world. It is an unprecedented design approach that can lead to an expanded field of expression possibilities. It is very stimulating for a designer like me to work with the tangible and the intangible at the same time. And note, how these two worlds can feed each other. ”
