SUMMER APPLE 2022 | The 10th edition of the festival of Indian culture

For all lovers of Indian art and culture, it returns to celebrate its ten-year anniversary Summer apple. This year the festival is planned from 21 to 29 June 2022will be located between the gardens of Castel Sant’Angelo, the Rospigliosi Palace in Zagarolo – as traditional – and the Ettore Scola open-air theater, at the Gardens of Casa del Cinema.

SummerMela represents, since its birth, a unique opportunity on national territory to share and understand Indian culture in its oldest and most refined traditions, but also in its contemporary expression expressed by great interpreters of Indian culture, music and dance.

The inauguration of the party

The festival is inaugurated Tuesday June 21st on the occasion of two famous international days: the of Yogaas in the open spaces of Castel Sant’Angelo will see a collective yoga session take place at. 18:00, and International Music Dayas the festival will suggest it Concert with Indian classical music SUMMER RAGA with Aratim Majumdar to sarod and Amit Chatterjee to tabla. The concert – in collaboration with the Music Festival – includes in two stages a selection of some ragas that are traditionally associated with the summer season to celebrate the summer solstice.

Festival days

Thursday June 23 it will be there Rospigliosi Palace in Zagarolo to host the second appointment of SummerMela with theater-dance and martial arts show DEMONS AND GODSwhere 9 dancers with different backgrounds and backgrounds must interpret the master’s theatrical work Dominique Delorme. A performance, scheduled at 20:00, which in an innovative and original way combines the languages ​​of classical Indian dance theater and martial arts techniques (bharatanatyam dance, karana, kalaripayattu) with the languages ​​of modern dance theater research, as taught by the great choreographer.

Delorme himself will lead, from 24 to 26 June always in Zagarolo, a Bharatanrtyam and Karana dance master classes (registration on the festival’s official website).

The last day of the party

SummerMela ends on Wednesday June 29 with a special event in the outdoor spaces of the Casa del Cinema in Rome, Ettore Scola open-air theater, starting at 18:00. In fact, there will be three moments to share Indian culture, each of which will be dedicated to different artistic expressions.

The event opens with the presentation of the photo book INDIA, DESIRE FOR LIGHT by the photographer Mario D’Angeloa volume published on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the festival, evoking the most striking moments of the performances in the previous editions through pictures. A veritable visual diary of a cultural enterprise, the author’s pictures give readers a lasting impression of beauty and joy.

To follow, from about 7:30 p.m., Maestro Rakesh Chaurasiaconsidered one of the most important exponents of Hindu classical music and virtuoso of bansuri (bamboo flute of the Indian tradition) will perform the Indian Classical Music Concert AFTEN RAGA accompanied to tabla da Sanjay Kansa Banik.

The evening ends at 21:00 with screening of one of the most famous cult films from Indian classical culture: Baiju Bawra, which this year marks the 70th anniversary of its cinema release. The film, directed by Vijay Bhatt, was a surprising blockbuster with a completely classic soundtrack and won several awards.
