Art and design for the social, from the Academy of Naples a lesson in militant east / ethics

If the culture does not isolate itselfAccording to a well-known slogan (now repeated as a mantra), creativity certainly has no limits. And it can even be redemptive in dark times with increased discomfort of civilization: a creative child is a happy child, he said Bruno Munari in the wake of an eye-catching group of educator-writers and author educators who knew a lot, in terms of the art of living in growing (and getting to grow) together. And if multiple and varied rivers of creativity long cultivated, experimented and divided into format (s) paths together there, with clever majestic orientations, towards the sea of professional opportunities in an ethically sustainable context and also oriented towards model education development in harmony. with a civilian economy, then it really hits. Specifically: not according to abstract desires or abstrate theories that preach (but do not practice) self-appointed interdisciplinarity.

After more than two years of pandemic and seasons of forced isolation, but certainly not inactive, this is what School of Artistic Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples: with a day in the Foqus Foundation with the significant title “Design beyond design” (design beyond design) and experienced as a large and joyful community party, even before an exhibition with about thirty independent but complementary sections, alongside presentations, meetings, workshops, live events, editorial previews and live postcards of young artists as gifts to attendees. That is – between prototypes of didactic table games and innovative video games, between illustrations from the character to the project and from the writing to the pictorial narrative, between contamination of writings and visions, between poetic synesthesia, the result of a generative writing of sensory experiences in the rhythm of the order and redefining the boundaries of narratives , between dedicated comics and threads of stories in freedom – the fluid path laid out by students and teachers on the two courses in communication design and fashion design (belonging to the School of Artistic Design for the company coordinated by Enrica d’Aguanno), but also by illustration and other disciplines of the Academy, directed by Renato Lori and led by Rosita Marchese, testified to the city about the planning commitment of a community of teachers and students who made research / action a method open to dialogue (between art and beyond) and to the service of society. And he would (to) show it, open the doors to their workshop of talents and creative products.

As certain surprising packaging winners (real paper sculptures) for their concept that weaves imagination, graphic elegance and functionality, of first prizes in national and international competitions: “Packaging is emotion, it is storytelling, and it is history that weaves tradition and innovation together. He explains Ornella Formati, teaches at the two-year course in Packaging, which illustrates some of the most successful projects, so much so that he went into production at various companies. Not only. From fashion to design interior design to project publishing, there are also remarkably many propotypes with more potential: “artistic” clothing created by young and imaginative fashion designers, complete with a fashion show (and in-depth essay by Mariangela Salvati, entitled Digital couture. Digital Trends in Contemporary Fashion, Artem edizioni); books, leporelli, illustrated books “beyond” (ie tactile, artistic, beyond the book form to tell even the smallest stories, legends, myths and current stories, for example, for the defense of the environment); and then lamps made of the most diverse materials and shapes, in a design continuum, which Enrica d’Aguanno, coordinator of the School of Artistic Design, sums up as follows: “Designing it beyond means being able to see other things, things that are not yet are visible, but possible, and thus build practical ways to achieve them. Any good project is not just a good idea, but the ability to shape one’s imagination so that it becomes a concrete component of the world. ”Not only that : From this point of view, communication plays a strategic role, reinforced throughout the dynamic structure of the different sections of the exhibition, where the complexity of design “beyond” design and planning as an “open question” and research / ethics, reveals its many facets that also affect a fantasy factory like “the seventh art”, where the “movie poster factory”, for example, curated by Diego Del Pozzo, reveals how to convey films.

Director Renato Lori explains: “For over a decade, the Academy has deliberately opened up to new languages, alongside the traditional paintings and sculptures, thus improving its educational offerings”. Tradition and modernity. Ch intertwine, captures contemporary trends for projecting young students into a future that takes into account past experiences, with territorial and social consequences: as it happens, to give another example, in the graphic-artistic collaboration with the magazine L ‘ A. Pe-Street University, del Mammut center in Scampia, but also in many other projects that go across societal didactics, experimental cross-media and shared visions: “Breaking between disciplines becomes a way that greatly enriches individuals, in collaboration with others”, he adds Daniela Pergreffi, illustration teacher. But it is above all the enthusiasm, tangible that passes through the main characters and strikes the users of good practice in a school of prismatic artistic design, which D’Aguanno defines “a context in which cultures and people meet and work together, on a daily basis. , to transform the unthinkable into the not yet thought and the impossible into the not yet practiced.
