Is it possible to skip school years?

It is possible to register for kindergarten and primary school in advance and take the final exams in school cycles a year before.

In Italy, there are frequent cases of particularly gifted students who could easily anticipate and shorten their studies. What school admission advances are allowed?

The rules for reorganizing the first cycle of education and kindergarten [1] has provided that they can be registered from the school year 2009/2010 primary school children who turn three by April 30 of the reference school year.

For Primary school there is a similar possibility early registration for those who turn six by April 30 of the reference school year [2].

It is also possible advance the school by one year through a specific aptitude test that provides direct access to the second year of the course, without attending first grade. This option is not allowed for those who make use of the pre-registration in primary school.

When can admission to kindergarten be expected?

IN primary school pre-registration is allowed as long as certain specifications are met conditions:

  • available spots;
  • verification of emptying of any waiting lists;
  • availability of adequate facilities and equipment in terms of accessibility and functionality, to meet the different needs of children under three years of age;
  • pedagogical and didactic evaluation, of the teaching staff, of the reception times and methods.

In addition to the advance payment, special educational offers must be activated for children between the ages of two and three, called the spring section.

Advance admission to primary school: how to do it?

Children who reach the age of six by April 30 of the reference school year can early enrollment in primary school.

For early admission, presentation of a specific request of the family at enrollment.

The application must be approved by the school, provided that there are places and the priority criteria approved by the school council.

Skip the first year of primary school: is it possible?

Families can early enrolling children in the second year of primary schoolafter exceeding a entrance exam. In this way, children who enroll in first grade go directly to second grade after passing the qualification exam.

This option is only allowed for students who do not make use of the pre-registration in first grade.

How do you skip the fourth year of high school?

The law [4] gives 4th year high school students the opportunity to support in advance final examshowever, with certainty conditions.

First, students must apply per January 31st of the year in which the fourth year of study falls and must have:

  1. reported in the last vote in the penultimate class, not less than eight tenths in each discipline and not less than eight tenths in conduct;
  2. followed a general course of secondary education;
  3. reported an evaluation of at least seven tenths in each discipline or group of disciplines and at least eight tenths in the behavior of the surveys in the two preceding years, without having incurred repetitions in the two aforementioned years.

The disciplines in question do not include the teaching of the Catholic religion.

Furthermore, students must not have incurred the disciplinary sanction for non-admissionstate exam [5].

The shortening after merit is not allowed in the four-year experimental courses, of course, given the special nature of the courses themselves.
