At MobilitARS in Reggio Emilia, it is state-of-the-art in the car-free city

Two days filled with meetings, relationships and suggestions at MobilitARS in Reggio Emilia: Second edition of the training symposium on the art of the third millennium mobility, finally present, 300 people participated under this year’s theme “Make the city without a car”.

Minister of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility Enrico Giovannini opened the event, followed by the geologist and science communicator Mario Tozziand 30 speeches by leading Italian and European experts in the field of mobility, with case studies and proposals to free cities from cars, energy dependence and smog.

The event was held in Reggio Emilia at Loris Malaguzzi International Center and was organized by Bikenomist in collaboration with Reggio Emilia Municipality, with support from Selle Royal Group and Eco Counter, with the protection of the Ministry of Ecological Transformation and the Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility.

Another edition present, following a digital only first, in which over 30 Italian and European mobility and mobility experts presented case studies and proposals to free cities from cars, energy dependence and smog. The focus of this issue was the car-free city for the ecological transformation, which fell into 6 macro themes: More environment, more security, more well-being, more energy, more space, more time.

The choice of the Emilian city was not random: first in Italy for bicycle paths, here the biplane and the master plan for bicycles were born. And here are also planned two superbike trails that will bring together the northern and southern part of the city in the center.

“We are pleased with the city’s participation in this new edition of MobilitARS” commented the Councilor for Sustainability Policies of Reggio Emilia Municipality Carlotta Bonviciniwho added: “The event was an opportunity to anticipate the new Biciplan, which will be officially presented in the coming weeks, it is the new plan for the city’s bicycle mobility, Velopoli – Biciplan 2022”.

“We were finally able to get back in presence and have been able to create an opportunity for discussion and meeting between mobility operators and the Italian public space. We believe that the comparison with the best experiences must be increasingly stimulated and participated in order to lift the debate, which can not be reduced to the needs of the individual, but to a value at Community level. In this sense, MobilitARS has reached its goal ” commented Paolo PinzutiCEO of Bikenomist and director of MobilitARS.

The event was opened with the intervention of Enrico Giovannini, who repeated the importance of the role of local administrators in the management of mobility.

Great attention was paid to school roads and to the health of girls and boys in interventions by Luca BoniardiPhD from the University of Milan, di Claudio Magliuloresponsible for Clean Cities Campaign Italia and by Simona Larghettimunicipal councilor in Bologna, recalling the dramatic event that took place in L’Aquila.

Everyone highlighted the urgent need to reduce the speed of the urban environment by bringing the speed of the city to 30 km / h. In Italy, Olbia is the first to use it.

The centrality of the data in the choice of local policies was highlighted by Carlo Carminuccidirector of ISFORT, who talked about systematic mobility and urban times by exposing data in the post-covid era that show how cyclists take up less time in transport and actually sleep more.

Public space given back to people as in the case of the car park transformed into a multifunctional and colorful square in Padua illustrated by the architect Alberto Marescottifor commercial activities as in the experience of the dehores in Milan and in case of spontaneous reuse of the spaces exhibited by Patrizia ScrugliPolitecnico di Milano.

Also from a logistics point of view, the gradual disappearance of individual vans is moving more and more towards professionals in the field of freight transport management.

Philip Broeksma, councilor for mobility, Groningen municipality (Netherlands) revealed the paradox in the citizens’ perception: everyone wants to park in front of the house, but at the same time everyone wants roads without a car. And the tendency, especially in Europe, to improve the greenery of the city more and more, as in the plan “fewer cars, more trees” in Valencia or Vitoria Gasteiz confirms this. Elections that reward the most courageous administrations also from an electoral point of view and show that citizens are ready for change.

Mario Tozzi has strengthened multidisciplinarity, where architects and engineers work with natural scientists, we must always learn from nature and urban green reduces the heat effect and reduces pollution. More soft policies and fewer large infrastructures.

In conclusion, the recipe for urban mobility in the third millennium is to be aware of the historical climatic, energetic and social context that goes from the liberation of space in favor of greener and sociality, and which necessarily translates into the liberation of the household. . income.
