The Minister of Education, Patrizio Bianchi, had in an interview with Corriere della Sera predicted some details regarding the 2022 summer school plan with 300 million to be set aside for training activities during the summer months.

Memorandum 994 of 11 May 2022, signed by the head of the Department of Education, Stefano Versari, provides further information on the plan.

Activities for the restoration of formal learning will be carried out through engaging and active forms; creative writing workshops, comparison of poetic themes between different cultures, mathematical games, chemistry and physics experiences, etc .;

The other activities

  • CAMPUS activities (Computing, Art, Music, Public life, Sports) and “Summer school”. In many areas, there are public and private institutions that can collaborate for free with schools;
  • strengthening the teaching of the English language, also for Italian students, with active methods and as far as possible in the situation (eg by exploiting tourism contexts for small operational activities);
  • support for relationality through the prevention and combating of cyberbullying, updating the field of action based on the current political, social and ethical situation. Including teaching correct interpersonal relationships and rejecting all forms of violence. For example, the inability to distinguish the true from the false in what is found on the Internet – the confusion between the number of likes or views and the finding of the truth of facts – training in timely verification of events and sources suggests the validity of news or opinions disseminated online (fact checking);
  • for all ages, development and in-depth study of environmental issues, associated with energy savings and taking responsibility for one’s environment: cleaning gardens and river beds, “adoption” of flower beds or plants in public parks … It is worth remembering that the use of the hand has made our species what it is, has enabled the brain, cognitive and linguistic development. The loss of manual skills in the new generations has serious consequences for cognitive, mental and relational structures;
  • peace education, through forms of experiential learning, such as, for example, non-violent conflict management activities (suitable for different ages and relationships), increased mutual trust, the ability to cooperate towards an end, etc .;
  • for the smallest, collective gaming projects, for example through the rediscovery and exchange of traditional games from the various countries of origin;
  • always for the small, psychomotor interventions performed by expert staff, not only in working with children (and this would be obvious), but also with children in stressful situations;
  • for young people who carry out small manual activities, for socialization and educational purposes, of education for civil and environmental coexistence (eg arrangements for arranging flower boxes, bicycles for classmates, …).

Financial resources

For the summer school 2022, the following funding lines are available for educational institutions:

PON “For school” 2014-2020

With a response to a public announcement “at the counter” – which will be issued by the mission unit of the PNRR and available at the link – the state and non-commercial private schools of the first I and of the Second education cycle, the provincial centers for adult education, school networks can nominate (a total of about 179 million euros are available) projects aimed at promoting the strengthening and improvement of skills, including digital ones, socialization and togetherness, as well as the inclusion of students with fragility.

The activities can be carried out by schools individually or even in a network with each other and with the involvement of local authorities, research bodies, public bodies or the third sector.

Technical support and ticketing services are provided for information and clarifications; Webinars will also be activated to encourage participation and support schools in the presentation of applications and in the subsequent management of projects.

In addition, there are approx. 99 million PON funds available for projects nominated by schools for the Summer 2021 plan, which are not currently activated and to be implemented in the coming summer months.

Support for relationality

With a statement from the Directorate – General for the student, inclusion and scholastic guidance will be made known on how to access the permanent fund (2 million euros) – Act No. 234 of 30 December 2021, Article 1, paragraphs 671, 672 and 673 – created to prevent and combat the phenomenon of cyberbullying, which in connection with # LaScuoladEstate2022 can be used for actions directed at school students in any order and degree.
