The Maria Calderara room

And the opportunity will also be good to get to know the Spazio Maria Calderara, in the heart of Milan, between Porta Venezia and Piazza della Repubblica, in what from 1985 to 2000 was the Christian Stein Gallery and before that an old foundry. In 2000, a restyling by architects Berselli Cassina Associati and Maria Calderara highlighted the structure of the room, preserving its former industrial characteristics and combining the showroom with the former Stein Gallery. Maria Calderara Space is divided by three steel columns that flank the original three cast-iron columns from the early 1900s that support the existing mezzanine, allowing for over 200 square feet of exhibit space.

For Maria Calderara, a designer specializing in jewelry and clothing, it’s a matter of offering a new space of culture to the city of Milan, free of mold: in via Lazzaretto 15, in fact, exhibitions, concerts, presentations and editorial festivals will alternate . “It’s a place I’m very attached to – remember Maria Calderara – with an incredible history, also in terms of its architectural changes: I remember that in 1983, when the floors were created in the showroom, Mario Merz, who at the time was by preparing an exhibition at the Stein Gallery, he spent morning and evening curiously checking the progress of the work ».

After “Excitatio”, a project of Marco Flò Meneguzzo and edited by Francesca Interlenghidedicated to the female body, with photographs of Deborah Barnaba and the paintings of Nayra Martín Reyes, it’s over the next few days the trip to “Postmedia Parole”. Finally, continuing this season, Spazio Maria Calderara will host the personal exhibition dedicated to the architect, artist and architectural historian Gianni Pettenacreated in collaboration with Giovanni Bonelli Gallery.
