Back to the Future. The whimsical design of the 1960s and early 1970s lives on in Porsche’s latest powerful handmade series in limited edition.
Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur pays tribute to the sports car manufacturer with the Porsche 911 Sport Classic, a car that breaks the mold and catches the attention not only of Porsche fans and classic car lovers. Porsche Design launches the 911 Sport Classic Chronograph in conjunction with the launch of this unique car. This model embodies the spirit of the 60s by wearing it on the wrist of motorists and will be reserved exclusively for owners of the 911 Sport Classic. Intricate details, inspired by the new limited edition Porsche model, make this watch a striking example and a true “sports car on the wrist”, in line with the Porsche Design philosophy.
The spirit of the 60s meets the notion of today
Like its street-instrument counterpart, The new Porsche Design Chronograph 911 Sport Classic inspires with its sporty design, constant precision and high-quality craftsmanship. The two-tone titanium watch case – titanium and black – light and resistant, forms the basis. The dial and hands are based on the tachymeter in Heritage Design: The white chronograph hands and green numbers and indices reveal at first glance in which decade the Chrongraph 911 Sport Classic found its inspiration.
For the first time, Porsche Design offers a selection of different dials for this model, all in line with the central theme and design features of the newly designed Porsche 911 Sport Classic. In addition to the classic matte black dial in Heritage Design, you can choose the iconic Sport Classic stripes in light sporty gray or the typical nugget pattern of the 1960s, which the car’s interior is also covered with.
The Porsche Design icon used is in gold, which perfectly matches the Porsche logo on the back of the vehicle and the limited edition emblem inside the vehicle. The secondary disc has the gold inscription “911 Sport Classic Glue. Series”. It is all protected by a seven-layer anti-reflective sapphire crystal with a very resistant coating.
COSC certified caliber – charger rotor designed to resemble the car’s rim
Inside, the new watch beats the heart of the COSC-certified WERK 01,200 Porsche Design caliber. The flyback function allows the user to start, stop and reset the second hand in a single action. The laser engraved “Start / Stop” and “Reset” buttons highlight the clock’s functions. While the wheels of sports cars transfer power from the engine to the road, in the watch this important task falls to the rotor, which is mechanically wound with each movement of the wrist.
The 360-degree rolled-up rotor design is based on the available rim options for the 911 Sport Classic and includes a cover that resembles the center wheel block of a vehicle and features the historic Porsche Crest. The two straps that come with the watch – one in sophisticated black, one in elegant classic cognac – are inspired by the car’s interior: They are made of the same leather as the interior of the limited edition car and are finished with the embossed letters “911”. A quick-change system makes it easy to change straps without the need for extra tools.
Always one step ahead: the legacy of Porsche Design
Creator and designer Professor FA Porsche is famous for saying: “If we wanted something, we had to do it ourselves“.
And that’s why this extraordinary watch, in addition to being handmade and with a great sense of detail, was created in a very special place: the Porsche Design manufacturing, founded in 2014 in the Swiss city of Solothurn. This unique site brings together the best in sports car and watch expertise to create a perfect symbiosis between the two disciplines, combining the most sophisticated design standards with unmatched performance and craftsmanship. The resulting watches distill all the fascinating elements of the Porsche brand so that they can be enjoyed in off-road environments.
The Porsche Design Chronograph 911 Sport Classic is exclusively available to owners of the Porsche 911 Sport Classic 2023. It will be available for purchase through Porsche dealers or online at porsche-design.com.
