KOHLER, Wisconsin, May 6, 2022 / PRNewswire / – – Kohler, global lifestyle brand and leader in kitchen and bathroom products, returns to Milan Design Week with the world premiere of an immersive art experience in collaboration with artist-designer Daniel Arsham.
You can visit Kohler in the Senate Building (Via Senato 10) every day from 12:00 to 22:00 from Tuesday 7 June to Sunday 12 June.
Kohler’s exhibition at FuoriSalone presents an immersive art experience on a large scale, entitled “Divided Layers”, a site-specific installation based on the launch of Rock.01, a 3D-printed sink designed by Daniel Arsham in collaboration with Kohler in 2021
The immersive installation is made with a series of combined stackable panels that form a walkable gallery. While developing Rock.01, Arsham was inspired to create Divided Layers to allow guests to move through the sink. Each panel refers to a single plane of the 3D-printed clay that overlaps to form the sink. 3D printing is an additive construction process; on the contrary, the tunnel reveals the subtractive, removing parts to make room for the volume that the visitor can cross.
Inside the installation, a pond acts as a mirror surface to double and reflect the opening of the hollow volume. Arsham’s intention is for visitors to consider the acceptance of space and its malleability and understand the relationship between volumes. The cadence of the walls mimics the rhythm of the columns inside the palace and contributes to an entire atmosphere that represents movement or flow.
“Water flow is experienced in both negative and positive spaces, regardless of the ‘function’ of a form,” says Daniel Arsham. “In Divided Layers, visitors experience being inside the sink instead of using a functional piece.”
Kohler and Arsham are using this momentary celebration of design and art to announce a multi-year partnership that continues the exploration of art through form and function. Kohler is honored to continue the brand’s tradition of promoting art.
In addition, in honor of Milan Design Week, Kohler donated a donation to Water Mission’s WASH projects in Indonesia, which helped bring clean water and sanitation up to 10,000 people through 15 projects by 2022. Through effective products and inspiring partnerships, Kohler’s Believing in Better platform aims to improve the quality of life for current and future generations through design, craftsmanship and innovation.
In addition, Kohler will showcase its latest innovations globally at Salone del Mobile, Hall 22 – Stand H15 H19.
