The new edition of the Graphic Days® festival takes place from 16 to 26 Septemberbut the project starts today with the beginning of the works in via Durandi, a conversion path through urban art interventions in the pedestrian zone.
The international festival dedicated to visual design, promoted by the Print Club Torino Association and by the Quattrolinee, includes exhibitions, performances, experiential activities and workshops within the framework of Toolbox Coworking in Turinheadquarters and numerous events spread throughout the city.
Touch is fil rouge of the sixth edition of the festival, an invitation to return to physical and sensuality, absent in recent months, but also an invitation to stay in touch.
“With this theme,” I explain artistic coordinators of the festival Fabio Guida and Ilaria Reposo “We wanted to address the issue of reconnecting the senses in visual communication: a look at the near future where we will be able to experience what surrounds us through 360-degree sensuality. Stay in touch is one of our slogans, and to achieve this we will leave space at our headquarters, which has hosted us since the first edition: Toolbox Coworking, to meet the citizens and the territory “.
The Via Durandi project is an example of dissemination in the territory promoted by Graphic Days®: it is an urban art intervention, carried out with the protection of the city of Turin, contributed by Iren, the technical sponsorship of PPG Univer and in collaboration with the Piazza dei Mestieri association. It is the result of a participatory planning process that took place in April 2021 with local institutional stakeholders and through a workshop with the students from the upper classes of graphic operator course in the Imagination and Work institution.
The project involves coloring the sidewalk on the pedestrian street through geometric patterns inspired by the architecture of the buildings around the focus area. Thanks to the action of urban art in via Durandi, the use of a large pedestrian area will be brought back to citizenship, schools will be offered a safe place to perform physical, cultural and leisure activities, meeting and exchange between groups will be encouraged diversified number of users. This experience is the physical representation of the Graphic Days® claim: we mix design and people; social design becomes the tool to create a meeting between people and give them new ways to read and use social innovation projects through art.
