In the house of the future, home automation for everyone and smart mailboxes

Speech by Luca Guffanti, CEO of Ginvest Group and former President of Ance Lombardia –

The world is changing and the needs of families are changing. Even housing is a product in constant development that must take into account new technologies, but also climate change underway and new housing trends that have already changed for some time. To understand how the homes of the future will be built, it is necessary to ask who the inhabitants will be. There is no single answer because the houses have to respond to very diverse needs, from young singles to couples, but also to families with children and to people with characteristics of fragility for health or age reasons. One possible solution would be apps through which customers would simply have access to a variety of services, precisely to meet needs that are becoming more and more manifested and varied.

This phenomenon will consequently affect the construction of buildings in the coming decades: the house will be characterized by the possibility of a simple reconfiguration of the spaces and the creation of common spaces. The exterior walls will be arranged on the exterior walls so that the interior walls, not load-bearing, can be changed as needed. The lighting will be controlled by motion detectors or with voice activation, which eliminates the limitations of placing switches and sockets.

Home automation for everyone
Homes will no doubt be smarter, and home automation is not coming into homes as a luxury, but as a need, to make them smarter and more efficient. To achieve better energy efficiency, non-essential equipment will shut down by itself and will do so even when electricity reaches the peak price by recharging all storage systems at reduced prices. In fact, it is expected that it will be common to be able to control its energy consumption through a centralized platform that allows you to remotely monitor: heating, electricity consumption, ventilation and charging of your vehicle. We anticipate and already see that in the next few years, every home will have a system for recharging an electric car, and this will be connected to renewable energy systems, which will be equipped with the homes of the future.

Renewable energy
The issue of clean energy also plays an important role and not only for private homes but also for businesses. There will be more attention to renewable energy and a growing popularity in the choice of energy strategies aimed at increasing clean energy. This pure electricity can then be converted through devices such as heat pumps. Therefore, despite the trend towards miniaturization of electronics, some of the technologies that will be present in the home will increase in size. As in the case of devices for storing excess electricity or heat generated by renewable energy. The interplay between the heat, heat recovery and ventilation systems will therefore be more complex, but as desired, there will be more assistance, maintenance and inspection services.

Access to solar energy is also increased thanks to well-oriented roofs, which will be the main tool for expanding the photovoltaic system. The solar energy collected in this way will then be stored in the house of the future thanks to batteries that are recharged by solar panels and converted into low-tariff electricity. New simple passive strategies for room ventilation and cooling are also envisaged for the homes of the future.
Home delivery
The homes of the future will also see their mailboxes changed. A change related to the fact that even the home delivery world in recent times has evolved and has affected our lives. In this sense, the health emergency and the shutdowns associated with it have also been complicit, which has led many users to approach this world. In fact, it is expected that in the near future, more and more purchases will be made online and delivered home. This is how the mailbox of the future will be smart cabinetit must be large enough to accommodate packages, smart to track deliveries and safe to protect valuable purchases.

In conclusion, as families’ habits and consumption change, the home will also have to evolve and meet new needs, leading manufacturers to create competitive and cutting-edge products.
