MILAN – The Museum of the twentieth centurywhich continues to propose an interdisciplinary dialogue between the arts, presents an in-depth study of the figure of Aldo Rossi, architect, designer, theorist and critic, one of the main figures in the visual culture of the twentieth century.
Aldo Rossi. Design 1960-1997 edited by Chiara Spangaro, in cooperation with Aldo Rossi and Silvana Editoriale Foundationwill be open to the public from kl April 29 to October 2, 2022.
For the first time, they are exhibited in a spectacular itinerary outside 350 between furniture and utensils, prototypes and models, paintings, drawings and studios designed and created by Aldo Rossi from 1960 to 1997a visual testimony of his activity as a designer, architect and architectural theorist.
Since the first furniture made in 1960 with the architect Leonardo Ferrari, Rossi’s production reflects the relationship between the architectural and urban scale and the monumental and objective. Since 1979, he has opened up a world of industrial production and high craftsmanship, creating furniture and products for use first with Alessi, then with Artemide, DesignTex, Bruno Longoni Furniture Atelier, Molteni & C | UniFor, Richard-Ginori, Rosenthal, Up and Up (UpGroup today).
In almost twenty years of work, he has developed more than 70 pieces of furniture and objects, many of which are still in production today, experimenting with shapes and colors in metals and wood, marble and stone, ceramics and porcelain, handmade fabrics. and industrial and plastic materials.
The Milanese exhibition, whose installation project is signed by Morris Adjmi – MA architects, collaborator and then associated with Rossi in New York, tells Aldo Rossi’s universe in nine spaces: each of them represents a world where the relationship between graphic works and craft and industrial products arises, with references to architecture and the private space. The works on display come from museums and company archives (Alessi Museum; Molteni Museum; archives of Bruno Longoni Atelier of Furniture and Up Group); Italian and International Museum Collections (Bonnefanten Museum, Maastricht; Center Georges Pompidou, Paris; Richard-Ginori Archive Museum Foundation of the Doccia Factory, Florence; MAXXI – Museum of XXI Century Arts, Rome; Iuav University of Venice; Triennale di Milano), but also several private collections.

During the opening period, the exhibition will be supplemented with a program of side events.
The catalog raisonné is published on the occasion of the exhibition Aldo Rossi. Design 1960-1997, edited by Silvana Editoriale, edited by Chiara Spangaro and with a critical essay by Domitilla Dardi. The first publication to bring together all of Rossi’s designer’s projects: prototypes, objects created, unpublished and sold out designed by the Milanese architect-designer awarded the Pritzker Prize in 1990.
